the latest news from the team at nimbus
Nimbus Journey Information are pleased to be starting work on the second phase of Milton Keynes’ Real Time Passenger Information system upgrade. Phase 2 of the Milton Keynes contract includes the installation of 36 new 3-line LED displays on the city’s bus stop network, plus several new large TFT and LED departure boards in the city’s bus and rail stations. The displays will have RNIB-triggered audio enabled. In addition, Nimbus will be equipping the city’s Arriva bus fleet with TFT displays for next bus passenger information, audio, images and video, managed with Nimbus’s i-Media system. Nimbus has also developed a smartphone app for passengers in Milton Keynes, and offers online access to real time bus information at www.getonboardmk.co.uk. Phase 2 involves expanding the real time prediction system with data from smaller local operators such as Z&S Buses, and providing a feed to the Traveline Service (through the SIRI protocol). Russell Gard, Managing Director of Nimbus, said: “We hope that these new displays and on-bus media screens will improve peoples’ journeys on the city’s buses. We’ve really enjoyed working with partners Arriva and Milton Keynes Council to deliver this project.” The second phase comes hot on the heels of the completion of the first phase in December 2013 – on time and on budget, and deemed an all-round success by stakeholders. The project has been facilitated by the Better Bus Areas fund. Andrew Coleman, Passenger Transport Manager at Milton Keynes Council, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing the new displays up and running. Nimbus have been great to work with and we expect the second phase of the project to be as successful as the first.” Caroline Lewis joins Nimbus as Bid Writer & Project Support Expansion is also taking place at the Nimbus HQ in West Sussex, where the team have welcomed a new member of staff.
